Lambda Light Chains Still Normal

We received the lab results of the Freelite test and SPEP. The lambda light chain protein only increased from 9.53 to 13.1 mg/L. This is insignificant and still within the normal range. We were concern that this number might increase with the recent reduction in chemo treatment.

11 June 2010

IgG 431 mg/dl (700 - 1600
IgA 57 mg/dl (70 - 400)
IgM 11 mg/dl (40 - 230)
IEP - No monoclonal band identified.
Kappa Free Light Chains 10.8 mg/l (3.3 - 19.4)
Lambda Free Light Chains 13.1 mg/l (5.7 - 26.3)
Kappa/Lambda FLC ratio 0.82 (0.26 - 1.65)

  1. Dear Jerry and Rebecca,

I am very happy that the light chains are perfectly stable. I am, however, not the least bit surprised. I think you guys can breathe a little easier these days, at least regarding the disease itself (leaving aside your wrenching fractures). When Velcade is used in combination for newly diagnosed, untreated patients, those patients tend to have remissions lasting upwards of nearly 3 years. I've followed your progress, and know that you started treatment around March 09 -- thus, I think it's likely that you'll ride this remission a while longer yet.
Best of luck to both of you.

  2. Rebecca,

I just jotted you an e-mail -- if you don't see it in your inbox, please check your spam folder to ensure it didn't go in there. I sent it from this account.

    Best,
    BJ
